"...life was bounded by time, space, and probability" ― Haruki Murakami, Killing Commendatore
Our group focuses on studying the geographic distribution, movement, and spread of insects, pathogens, and weeds. We use geographic information systems (GIS), data-driven approaches, and spatial analysis techniques to model and visualize the distribution of pests at various spatial (field to landscape) and temporal scales. By analyzing these patterns, we gain insights into the factors affecting pest population distribution and movement, such as environmental conditions and host availability. Our research helps develop strategies for managing pest populations and mitigating the damage they cause.

Lab News
April 2024 Adi Biran (MSc student) and David Ygzao (PhD candidate) are joining our lab to work on weed mapping. Wishing both of you the best of luck! August 2023 Nikolai, our new MSc student, was selected for the prestigious MSc scholarship from the Volcani Center and the Hebrew University. Congratulation Nikolai! June 2023 We've been funded by the Binational Agriculture Research & Development Foundation (BARD), collaborating with Prof. Mohsen Mesgaran from UC Davis. June 2023 Our former postdoc, Dr. Krasnov, has accepted a prestigious postdoctoral position at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai medical center, NY. Congratulations Helena! April 2023 Congratulations to Roni Gafni for successfully defending her PhD thesis. December 2022 We were awarded two grants from the Israel's Ministry of Agriculture Chief Scientist. The first is a study of spatiotemporal dynamics of weed patches. The project is a collaboration with Prof. Hanan Eizenberg (ARO). The second focuses on improving fruit fly management by modeling distributions under current conditions, predicting the impact of climate change on future distribution, and improving control precision. The project is a collaboration with Dr. Michael Ben-Yosef (ARO). February 2022 Israel's Ministry of Agriculture Chief Scientist decides to fund our project on- Cover-crops as a mean to reduce herbicide use in field crops and their effect on weed community structure. This project is in collaboration with Dr. Maor Matzrafi (ARO) and Dr. Gil Eshel (ARO). April 2021 Roni received the Teommim scholarship for outstanding students. Congratulation! June 2020 Our group was awarded a grant from the US-Israel Binational Science Foundation (BSF). This project is in collaboration with Prof. Mohsen Mesgaran from UC Davis. December 2019 Gal Rozenberg successfully defended his Master's degree thesis. Congratulations! We are looking forward to continue our work with Gal as a PhD student! December 2019 Amber won, for the second time, the Ministry of Science & Technology postdoc scholarship. Well done and congratulations Amber. November 2019 Congratulation Roni on receiving the Yafe scholarship for Plant and Environmental Protection October 2019 Congrats to David on successfully defending his Masters thesis April 2019 We have a new paper out in Nature Plants February 2019 Congratulations to Nitzan Birger on successfully defending his MSc thesis! November 2018 Dr. Amber Hill, our new postdoc, has won a scholarship from the Ministry of Science. Congratulation Amber! June 2018 Interview with Benjy, in ASPB newsletter, on our late blight work. March 2018 Benjy won the top award (and $250,000!) in the Regeneron Science Talent Search 2018, for his late blight distribution mathematical model. Older news |
